Richard L. Garelick

Richard L. Garelick has been with Flicker, Garelick & Associates, LLP since it was founded in 1985, and he became a principal of and name partner in the firm in 1994. His international practice focuses on the defense of claims arising under the Defense Base Act. Mr. Garelick's work in DBA cases includes the prosecution of the claims of employers and carriers for reimbursement under the War Hazards Compensation Act.Mr. Garelick regularly counsels United States government contractors regarding the legal ramifications of the Defense Base Act and its associated regulations on the business operations of those entities. He is a member of International Stability Operations Association and he serves on that organization's Legal Affairs Committee.Mr. Garelick also defends against claims under the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, as well as lawsuits brought by seamen and commercial divers under the Jones Act and personal injury actions brought by rail workers under the Federal Employers' Liability Act.With over 35 years of experience, Mr. Garelick is recognized as an expert in these specialized areas of workers' compensation and personal injury law. He frequently lectures on these fields of defense practice, and he is the author of the "Average Weekly Wage" chapter in the Defense Base Act and War Hazards Compensation Act Handbook (LexisNexis, 2016).Mr. Garelick was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University and a Juris Doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School. Mr. Garelick is admitted to practice before the state and federal bars in both New York and New Jersey, and he is authorized to practice throughout the United States and internationally before the United States Department of Labor's judicial and administrative tribunals.
